Canoe Trip
Riverside Parks &
Recreation is offering a canoe trip for experienced
canoers. The trip will launch from Salt Creek
near Graue Mill in Hinsdale and travel to
Riverside's Scout Cabin taking many twists
and turns on the way.
Participants will meet at the
Scout Cabin at 11 a.m. on August 24th and
be driven to the launch site. Canoes are for
two persons and a meal will be provided afterward.
The event will end by 4:00 p.m.
Children 12 and older
may attend with a parent as long as both have
canoeing experience. Call Riverside Parks

explorers, early settlers and creators of
Chicago. The site is on the west side of Harlem
Ave. just 2 blocks north of the Stevenson
Expressway (I55). Meet at the monumental statue
of Joliet and Marquette and their Native American
guide at 10 am.
Tours are approximately 1/2 mile in length
on a gravel path through the woods. Wear long
pants and walking shoes or boots.
All tours are free and open to the public.
Tours run rain or shine. Reservations for
individuals are not required.

The second “Discovery of Chicago”
bus tour will follow the route
of Joliet and Marquette who, in 1673, were
the first Europeans to
record their passage though the Chicago Portage.
It will begin
at the monumental statue of Joliet and Marquette
and their Native American guide located on
the west side of Harlem Ave. just 2 blocks
north of the Stevenson Expressway (I55).
The cost of the tour will be $40.00 for adults,
$35.00 for
students and seniors. There is a $5 discount
for Friends
of the Chicago Portage members. Reservations
are required.
